Leonard Ingrande

Leonard Ingrande is an American conductor and composer known for his expressive musicianship, dynamic podium presence, and distinctive versatility across orchestral, operatic, and chamber repertoire. His performances have been featured in major U.S. venues including Carnegie Hall, Chicago’s Symphony Center, and the Strathmore Music Center, and he made his European conducting debut with the Teatrul National de Opera și Balet in Constanța, Romania.

As a conductor, Ingrande brings a compelling blend of clarity, emotional depth, and collaborative artistry to every ensemble he leads. He has worked with celebrated soloists such as Pepe Romero, Anthony Newman, Nathaniel Rosen, and David Shifrin, and has conducted an expansive range of repertoire from symphonic masterworks to contemporary works. He has championed new music throughout his career, leading premieres of works by James Hobbs, David Ward-Steinman, Mark Waters, Kenneth Froelich, and Paul Creston, among others.

Ingrande’s leadership roles include Music Director positions with the Kings Symphony, Merced Symphony, Clovis Chamber Orchestra, and the California Opera Association, as well as service as Conductor-in-Residence for multiple regional organizations. His guest conducting engagements span honor orchestras, festival ensembles, youth symphonies, and operatic productions across the United States, reflecting his reputation for inspiring performers and shaping cohesive, expressive musical interpretations.

As a composer, Ingrande’s work reflects the same lyrical sensibility and structural clarity that define his conducting. His compositions draw on American musical traditions, expressive harmonic language, and a deep understanding of orchestral color, shaped by decades of professional experience on the podium. His musical training includes studies at the University of Southern California under Daniel Lewis, diplomas from Loma Linda University under the mentorship of Herbert Blomstedt, and additional work at the Cleveland Institute of Music, the Aspen Music Festival, and the Juilliard School Extension Division.

Respected for his long-standing contributions to American musical life, Ingrande has received numerous honors, including the NCBA Educator of the Year Award, the CMEA Byron Hoyt/Don Schmeer Band Educator Award, and recognition from the John Philip Sousa Foundation. Across his career, his ensembles and performances have been praised for their sincerity, precision, warmth, and expressive depth.
