Internationally celebrated for her commanding technique and deeply expressive artistry, Jenson first rose to international prominence when she won the Silver Medal at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, becoming both the youngest competitor ever and the first American woman to receive the honor. The historic achievement launched a distinguished international career spanning more than five decades.
Her acclaimed recording of the Sibelius Violin Concerto with the Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by Eugene Ormandy earned a Grammy Award nomination, establishing Jenson as one of the most compelling interpreters of the work. The recording remains widely admired for its emotional intensity, virtuosity, and musical insight.
Over the course of her career, Jenson has appeared as soloist with many of the world’s leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Cleveland Orchestra, and San Francisco Symphony, as well as major orchestras throughout Europe, Australia, and the Americas.
A protégé of legendary violin masters Nathan Milstein, Josef Gingold, Dorothy DeLay, and Isaac Stern, Jenson carries forward one of the great violin traditions of the twentieth century. In addition to her international performing career, she has devoted significant energy to mentoring the next generation of musicians through university teaching and masterclasses around the world.
Jenson has served as Distinguished Professor at Grand Valley State University and most recently as Visiting Associate Professor of the Practice in Violin and Viola at the University of Notre Dame. She is also the founder of the String Academy of Grand Rapids, an intensive training program for young violinists that has guided dozens of students toward advanced musical study and professional performance.
The Sibelius Violin Concerto is widely regarded as one of the most dramatic and technically demanding concertos in the violin repertoire, combining sweeping Nordic lyricism with dazzling virtuosity. Jenson’s long association with the concerto brings rare authority and insight to this performance.
Under the direction of Music Director David Bernard, the Massapequa Philharmonic, Resident Orchestra of Tilles Center for the Performing Arts, presents vibrant orchestral performances for Long Island audiences and serves as a cultural leader in the region through artistic excellence, education, and community engagement.
This program features acclaimed violinist Dylana Jenson performing her signature concerto, alongside Stravinsky’s engaging Pulcinella Suite and Antonín Dvořák’s beautiful and radiant Symphony No. 8—an unforgettable afternoon of music-making.
The performance takes place Sunday, March 15, 2026 at 3:00 PM at Berner Auditorium.
