Jamie Reeves Opens Landmark Season in Collaboration with Yo-Yo Ma

MONTGOMERY, ALJamie Reeves will lead the opening concert of Montgomery Symphony Orchestra’s 50th Anniversary Season on Sunday, September 20 at 3:00 p.m. at Davis Theatre for the Performing Arts, joined by internationally acclaimed cellist Yo-Yo Ma for one of the orchestra’s most anticipated performances in recent years.

A 20-time Grammy Award winner, Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient, United Nations Messenger of Peace, and founder of Silkroad, Yo-Yo Ma remains one of the most influential artists in classical music. His discography includes more than 120 albums, from landmark recordings of the classical canon to genre-defying collaborations such as Goat Rodeo Sessions with Chris Thile, Edgar Meyer, and Stuart Duncan. Through initiatives including the Bach Project and Our Common Nature, Yo-Yo Ma has continued expanding classical music’s role in cultural dialogue worldwide.

The opening program reflects the artistic direction Jamie Reeves has cultivated in Montgomery—balancing contemporary voices with cornerstone repertoire. The concert opens with Carlos Simon’s The Block, followed by Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring Suite. Following intermission, Yo-Yo Ma joins Jamie Reeves and the Montgomery Symphony Orchestra for Antonín Dvořák’s Cello Concerto in B Minor.

The performance launches a milestone season celebrating five decades of artistic excellence in Alabama’s River Region. The anniversary season will feature internationally recognized guest artists, a four-concert Masterworks series, a world premiere commission, a concert presentation of La Bohème by Giacomo Puccini, and a season finale featuring pianist Joyce Yang performing Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5 'Emperor'.

Since his appointment as Music Director in the 2021–2022 season, Jamie Reeves has led a period of notable artistic momentum for the Montgomery Symphony Orchestra through ambitious programming, high-profile collaborations, and community-focused initiatives. His Alabama Composers Project has brought new works connected to the state’s cultural history to the stage, including the recent world premiere of A Time for Jubilee by Nkeiru Okoye commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Selma to Montgomery March.

"Our 50th anniversary season celebrates all we´ve accomplished over five decades and looks ahead as we bring world-class symphonic experiences to the River Region," said Jamie Reeves. "Sharing the stage with Yo-Yo Ma for our season opener is a profound honor that will inspire our community and elevate the future of music-making in Montgomery.

Reviving the Ladino Tradition Through Flamenco and Contemporary Performance

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

April 10th, 2026 - Eva Artistic Management (EAM) is pleased to introduce Ladino vocalist René Benjamín, an emerging artist whose work bridges cultural preservation and contemporary performance through a distinctive and deeply personal artistic voice.

Positioned at the intersection of memory and reinvention, Benjamín brings renewed life to the ancient language of Ladino, intertwining it with the expressive intensity of flamenco. As one of the few young artists dedicated to this tradition, she represents a rare and vital continuation of a cultural heritage at risk of fading.

Her artistic development has been shaped through close mentorship with leading figures in the Ladino tradition, including internationally acclaimed vocalist Yasmin Levy. Alongside this foundation, her ongoing immersion in flamenco—as both a musical form and emotional language—has informed a performance style that is at once intimate, refined, and deeply rooted in tradition.

Rather than approaching Ladino as a static historical form, Benjamín reimagines it as a living, evolving language. Through her work, she revives lesser-known repertoire and places it within a contemporary, cross-cultural context, allowing it to resonate with modern audiences while preserving its historical depth and authenticity.

At the core of her artistry is a strong narrative sensibility. Each performance unfolds as a carefully constructed journey, where voice, silence, and emotion are intricately woven together. Her distinctive vocal timbre, combined with a thoughtfully curated visual aesthetic, creates an atmosphere that feels both timeless and strikingly personal.

Benjamín’s performances have introduced Ladino to new audiences through intimate concert settings and cultural presentations, offering listeners a rare encounter with a nearly lost musical world—one that, through her interpretation, feels immediate and alive.

At a time when Ladino stands on the edge of disappearance, René Benjamín emerges as a compelling young voice carrying both artistic refinement and cultural urgency. Her work positions her as a distinctive presence within the European and international music landscape.

Hailed for her “unsentimental verve, musical feeling and great technical skill” by New York Classical Review, Kluegel has established a multifaceted career as a soloist and chamber musician, performing across modern and Baroque violin repertoire as well as contemporary works. Fluent in four languages and having lived on three continents, she maintains an international career collaborating with musicians throughout Europe and the United States.

Her performances have taken her to leading venues including the John F. A dedicated chamber musician, Kluegel served for seven years as first violinist of the Chicago-based Fifth House Ensemble and is co-founder of Duo FAE. Her recording work includes participation in the Grammy-nominated album Canto America (Best Latin Jazz Album), as well as a 2025 Albany Records release featuring music by suffragette composers.

An advocate for contemporary music, Kluegel has premiered works by composers including Dan Visconti, Julia Adolphe, Steven Snowden, and Stacy Garrop, and continues to commission and perform new repertoire. Upcoming projects include a recording of contemporary works for scordatura solo violin.

In addition to her performing career, Kluegel is an active educator who has presented masterclasses and residencies at institutions including the Eastman School of Music, Northwestern University, the University of Texas at Austin, and the McDuffie Center for Strings. She currently serves on the faculty of Carthage College and the Mostly Modern Festival.

“Charlene brings a rare combination of versatility, intellectual depth, and artistic curiosity to her work,” says Eva Adolfo, CEO of Eva Artistic Management. “Her ability to move seamlessly between historical and contemporary repertoire, combined with her international presence, reflects the kind of multidimensional artistry we are proud to represent.”

Kluegel holds degrees from Cornell University, the Peabody Institute, and the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where she earned her Doctor of Music as a recipient of the Artistic Excellence Award. She performs on a 1780 violin by Antonio Gragnani and is an artist sponsored by Larsen Strings.

Conductor Libi Lebel Returns to Brazil for Performances with the Goiânia Symphony Orchestra

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Conductor Libi Lebel Returns to Brazil for Performances with the Goiânia Symphony Orchestra

Goiânia, Brazil — March 2026 — Conductor Libi Lebel, Artistic Director of the Texas Medical Center Orchestra (TMCO), returns to Brazil this season to lead the Goiânia Symphony Orchestra in two distinguished performances, further reinforcing her international activity and commitment to thoughtful, repertoire-driven programming. The first concert took place on March 20, 2026, in recognition of International Women’s Day, featuring an all-French program centered on the Brazilian and South American premiere of Symphony “The Great War” by French composer Charlotte Sohy (1887–1955). Composed during the years surrounding World War I, Sohy’s symphony is a deeply expressive and historically significant work that remained largely unheard for decades. Its recent revival has brought renewed attention to a composer whose voice was long absent from the concert stage. This performance marked an important milestone in the work’s international reach and reflected Lebel’s ongoing artistic focus on presenting compelling and underrepresented repertoire. The performance was met with strong audience response and critical reflection. One review noted Lebel’s leadership as defined by “rigor, sensitivity, and a strength that did not impose itself — it revealed itself,” highlighting her ability to shape both the musical and collaborative energy of the performance. The concert, which featured works by Lili Boulanger and Charlotte Sohy, was described as both an artistic and cultural statement, culminating in a standing ovation. “I was honored to return to Brazil and collaborate again with the Goiânia Symphony Orchestra,” said Lebel. “Presenting Charlotte Sohy’s symphony to audiences in Brazil and across South America was especially meaningful as we recognize the contributions and legacy of women in music.” Lebel will return to Goiânia on August 9, 2026, for a second engagement leading an all-Russian program featuring Modest Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3, and Mikhail Glinka’s Overture to Ruslan and Ludmila. These engagements reinforce Lebel’s growing international profile as a guest conductor and her ability to shape programs that balance audience familiarity with thoughtful artistic perspective. About Libi Lebel Libi Lebel is a conductor, educator, and Artistic Director of the Texas Medical Center Orchestra (TMCO). Known for her leadership in innovative and community-centered programming, she has developed projects that connect music with broader cultural and interdisciplinary themes. She has appeared as a guest conductor with ensembles across Europe and South America and is recognized for her ability to bring clarity, structure, and expressive depth to both standard and lesser-performed repertoire.

Polish Violinist Justyna Zańko Makes Acclaimed Oxford Debut with Solo Recital

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Polish Violinist Justyna Zańko Makes Acclaimed Oxford Debut with Solo Recital

OXFORD, UK — March 7, 2026 — Polish violinist Justyna Zańko made a compelling Oxford debut with her first solo violin recital at Holy Trinity Church, Headington Quarry, presenting a program of striking range and technical depth that drew enthusiastic praise from critics and audiences alike.

The recital featured a demanding and stylistically diverse program for solo violin, including Heinrich Ignaz Franz von Biber’s Passacaglia in G minor (“The Guardian Angel”), Johann Sebastian Bach’s Partita No. 3 in E Major, BWV 1006, Niccolò Paganini’s Caprice No. 13, Op. 1, Eugène Ysaÿe’s Sonata No. 4 in E minor, Op. 27, and Henryk Wieniawski’s Le Chant du Bivouac, Op. 10 No. 8.

According to a review published by Oxford Prospect Arts, the program offered “immense variety and contrast,” highlighting Zańko’s ability to move fluidly between introspective lyricism and virtuosic brilliance.

The performance opened with Biber’s Passacaglia, where “the audience was captivated at once by the sonorous tones of the opening notes,” setting the tone for a recital that sustained both intensity and nuance throughout. Critics further praised “the energy and virtuosity of her performance,” as well as her “adventurous, extrovert approach” to the instrument.

The recital concluded with Wieniawski’s Le Chant du Bivouac, a work rooted in the cultural and historical context of World War I, delivered with expressive depth and technical command.

Audience response was immediate and enthusiastic, with the review noting: “We hope there will be more opportunities to hear her play in Oxford.

This successful debut marks an important milestone in Zańko’s growing international presence, further establishing her as a violinist of distinctive artistic voice—one who combines refined musical sensitivity with bold interpretive character.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Violinist Katy Smith Returned to Herts Philharmonia as Soloist in Lalo’s Symphonie Espagnole

Hertfordshire, UK — March 7, 2026 — Violinist Katy Smith returned as featured soloist with Herts Philharmonia on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at 2:30 PM, performing Édouard Lalo’s virtuosic Symphonie Espagnole under the baton of conductor Sam Scheer.

Smith’s return engagement followed her successful appearance with the orchestra in October 2024, where she performed the Elgar Violin Concerto. The invitation to collaborate again with Herts Philharmonia reflected the strong artistic rapport established during that performance and the orchestra’s continued enthusiasm for Smith’s compelling interpretive voice.

Represented on the roster of Eva Artistic Management, Smith continues to build an international profile through concerto performances and collaborations with orchestras across the United Kingdom and beyond.

Widely admired for her expressive depth and commanding technique, Smith brought both brilliance and elegance to Lalo’s celebrated concerto, a work known for its vibrant Spanish character, lyrical intensity, and dazzling violin writing.

The performance also marked a personal milestone for the violinist. Although Smith first performed the concerto as a child prodigy at the age of ten, this concert represented the first time she performed all five movements of the work in a full concert performance.

The March program also marked Smith’s first collaboration with conductor Sam Scheer, offering audiences a dynamic new artistic partnership between soloist and orchestra. The performance was met with an enthusiastic audience response, further affirming Smith’s growing presence as a compelling concerto soloist.

Grammy-Nominated Violinist Dylana Jenson Performs Sibelius Violin Concerto with the Massapequa Philharmonic

Massapequa, NY — March 15, 2026 — The Massapequa Philharmonic Orchestra, led by Music Director David Bernard, will present an afternoon of extraordinary orchestral music on Sunday, March 15, 2026 at 3:00 PM at Berner Auditorium, featuring Grammy-nominated violinist Dylana Jenson as soloist in Jean Sibelius’s Violin Concerto, one of the most powerful and beloved works in the violin repertoire.

Internationally celebrated for her commanding technique and deeply expressive artistry, Jenson first rose to international prominence when she won the Silver Medal at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, becoming both the youngest competitor ever and the first American woman to receive the honor. The historic achievement launched a distinguished international career spanning more than five decades.

Her acclaimed recording of the Sibelius Violin Concerto with the Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by Eugene Ormandy earned a Grammy Award nomination, establishing Jenson as one of the most compelling interpreters of the work. The recording remains widely admired for its emotional intensity, virtuosity, and musical insight.

Over the course of her career, Jenson has appeared as soloist with many of the world’s leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Cleveland Orchestra, and San Francisco Symphony, as well as major orchestras throughout Europe, Australia, and the Americas.

A protégé of legendary violin masters Nathan Milstein, Josef Gingold, Dorothy DeLay, and Isaac Stern, Jenson carries forward one of the great violin traditions of the twentieth century. In addition to her international performing career, she has devoted significant energy to mentoring the next generation of musicians through university teaching and masterclasses around the world.

Jenson has served as Distinguished Professor at Grand Valley State University and most recently as Visiting Associate Professor of the Practice in Violin and Viola at the University of Notre Dame. She is also the founder of the String Academy of Grand Rapids, an intensive training program for young violinists that has guided dozens of students toward advanced musical study and professional performance.

The Sibelius Violin Concerto is widely regarded as one of the most dramatic and technically demanding concertos in the violin repertoire, combining sweeping Nordic lyricism with dazzling virtuosity. Jenson’s long association with the concerto brings rare authority and insight to this performance.

Under the direction of Music Director David Bernard, the Massapequa Philharmonic, Resident Orchestra of Tilles Center for the Performing Arts, presents vibrant orchestral performances for Long Island audiences and serves as a cultural leader in the region through artistic excellence, education, and community engagement.

This program features acclaimed violinist Dylana Jenson performing her signature concerto, alongside Stravinsky’s engaging Pulcinella Suite and Antonín Dvořák’s beautiful and radiant Symphony No. 8—an unforgettable afternoon of music-making.

The performance takes place Sunday, March 15, 2026 at 3:00 PM at Berner Auditorium.
